The American University of Kuwait received its Institutional Accreditation from the Private Universities Council (PUC) – Ministry of Higher Education in the State of Kuwait, as of February 1, 2006.

Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
American University of Kuwait is a Candidate institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or the Commission) http://www.msche.org. American University of Kuwait's accreditation status is Candidate for Accreditation. The Commission's most recent action on the institution's accreditation status on March 12, 2026 was to grant candidate for accreditation status. MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidate status) activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission's geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States and international.
