Biography

Yasmeen Al Askari is an English Instructor at the American University of Kuwait. She holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and American Studies from the University of Manchester and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the Gulf University for Science and Technology. She also holds a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) qualification from Cambridge. Her academic interests include postcolonial and contemporary Anglophone literature, literary representations of space and place, belonging, and the relationship between literature and colonial histories. Her postgraduate research explored how literature challenges dominant colonial representations of geography and identity, with particular attention to the ways postcolonial texts disrupt inherited spatial narratives and reimagine relationships between space and cultural identity. As an educator, she is also interested in academic writing, critical reading, and helping students develop confidence as independent thinkers and writers.
