Jibran Yousafzai

Dr. Jibran Khan Yousafzai is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, American University of Kuwait (AUK). He received his B.S. degree in Computer System Engineering from the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, in 2004, and his M.Sc. degree with distinction in Digital Signal Processing and Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from King’s College London, UK, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. He joined AUK in 2011 and has served as Associate Professor since 2023.

His research spans artificial intelligence and machine learning, signal processing, connected and autonomous vehicles, intelligent transportation and smart-city systems, and engineering education. His earlier research focused on robust automatic speech recognition, statistical machine learning, and digital audio signal processing, while his more recent work has addressed communication and processing technologies for connected vehicles, Quality-of-Experience-aware computational resource allocation, and machine/deep-learning applications. He has also conducted research in cryptography and secure communications.

Dr. Yousafzai has published in venues including IEEE Access, IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, the International Journal of Engineering Education, and the International Journal of Engineering Pedagogy, as well as in numerous IEEE conference proceedings. His engineering-education research encompasses outcomes assessment, accreditation, capstone design, cooperative learning, and computer architecture education. He received the Best Paper Award at IEEE EDUCON 2015 and served as Technical Program Committee Co-Chair for IEEE EDUCON 2023.

He has served as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences, including IEEE publications, and is a member of the IEEE and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)
